A community of Ethiopians and Ethiopian-Americans in San Jose, California — united in support, honoring our ancestral tradition of mutual care in times of loss.
Andnet Idir was established in September 2014 by Ethiopian volunteers residing in the State of California. Rooted in the age-old Ethiopian tradition of edir — a community support system for times of grief — we serve Ethiopians and Ethiopian-Americans in San Jose and surrounding areas.
Our mission is to provide financial, moral, and logistical support to members and their families in the event of a death, honoring our cultural heritage while building a stronger, more connected community in California.
The Board encourages anyone living in the State of California to join Andnet Idir. Let us keep the age-old self-help culture of Ethiopia alive.
